Job Description

About Revterra:

Revterra is revolutionizing energy storage with cutting-edge kinetic technology. We’re seeking a dynamic Electrical Engineer to drive innovation in motor/generator design and power systems integration. If you thrive on solving complex challenges and shaping the future of sustainable energy, we want you on our team.

Key Responsibilities:

Electric Machine Design & Simulation:

  • Design and optimize electric motors/generators for high-efficiency energy storage and power generation.
  • Perform electromagnetic and magnetostatic simulations using FEA tools (e.g., ANSYS Maxwell, COMSOL, JMAG) to refine performance parameters such as torque, efficiency, and thermal behavior.
  • Develop and validate detailed models for power electronic converters, magnetic components, and sub-systems to optimize performance under a range of operating conditions.
  • Perform transient and steady-state simulations to identify and mitigate potential issues such as electromagnetic interference (EMI), heat dissipation, and voltage/current stresses.

Power Systems Integration:

  • Develop and maintain single-line diagrams and system schematics.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and fault analyses to ensure safe and compliant grid integration.
  • Design and optimize power electronics and power conversion topologies (AC-DC, DC-DC, DC-AC).
  • Size and select power components (IGBTs, MOSFETs, diodes, capacitors, inductors, transformers) to meet system requirements.
  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit, and protection studies for low- and medium-voltage systems.
  • Collaborate on system-level design to ensure efficiency, reliability, safety, and compliance with relevant codes and standards (NEC, IEC, UL, IEEE).

Prototype Development & Testing:

  • Lead the product development cycle from concept through prototype and validation.
  • Oversee fabrication and testing of prototypes, analyze test data, and iterate designs based on real-world performance.
  • Identify opportunities to leverage advanced materials, manufacturing techniques, or novel topologies.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with mechanical, control, and power electronics engineers to ensure seamless integration of motor design with system controls and overall powertrain.
  • Coordinate with vendors and manufacturers to secure high-quality components.

Documentation & Compliance:

  • Prepare detailed design documentation, technical specifications, and test reports.
  • Ensure all designs comply with relevant industry standards (IEEE, IEC, UL, etc.) and safety protocols.
  • Create detailed engineering documentation including schematics, BOMs, test reports, and technical specifications.
  • Participate in design reviews, providing technical expertise and constructive feedback.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical engineers, software/controls engineers, product managers, and external vendors.

Must-Have Technical Skills:

  • Expertise in electric machine design (e.g., permanent magnet synchronous, induction machines) and associated electromagnetic calculations.
  • Proficiency in FEA simulation tools for 2D/3D analysis.
  • Solid foundation in power systems engineering, including the creation of single-line diagrams and performing load flow and fault analyses.
  • Experience with medium-to-high voltage systems, power conversion (inverters/converters), and protective device coordination.
  • Hands-on experience with prototype testing and data analysis using industry-standard instrumentation.
  • Basic familiarity with control systems and programming (Matlab/Simulink, Python).  Proficiency with schematic capture tools (Altium, OrCAD, or similar).
  • Familiarity with relevant standards and regulations (NEC, UL, IEEE, IEC).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on data-driven decision-making.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills; ability to clearly convey complex technical information.

Preferred Skills & Experience:

  • Advanced simulation techniques and multi-physics analysis (integrating thermal, structural, and electromagnetic studies).
  • Demonstrated success taking motor/generator products from concept to production.
  • Experience in vendor/supply chain coordination for custom component procurement.
  • Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in Electrical Engineering or a related field with a focus on power systems or electric machine design.
  • EIT/FE certification or PE licensure is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong collaborative mindset and effective teamwork in multidisciplinary settings.
  • Exceptional problem-solving, organizational, and project management abilities.
  • Commitment to continuous learning and staying updated on emerging technologies.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering (or related field) is required.
  • Minimum of 2+ years of relevant engineering experience (8-10+ years for senior roles).
